You might not have paid attention to them, but their website and YouTube channel are still massive. Heck, even the story about the plagiarist they employed made national news.

They are anything but irrelevant. IGN's better days are certainly behind it they started to decline bad around late to mid but i would hardly call them irrelevant.

The parody of the Muppet Show directed by Peter Jackson is well worth watching. It's complicated; Muppets Most Wanted underperformed, the Muppet TV show flopped, and Steve Whitmire Kermit was forced out for reasons deliberately left unsaid, but it was during the height of the MeToo movement, so we can only assume the worst.

You can understand why Disney's not too keen on investing money into the franchise right now. Whitmire was fired for a screaming fit at someone who considered him expendable and it was well before the MeToo movement.

While Whitmire says there was one union related issue there was some contract issue with SAG and Disney and that he also spoke up about how they were treating Kermit's character.

The character part is so weird to me, he was saying that they were making Kermit 'mean' in the television show but he was almost exactly how he was in the original show.

I'd go into it more but I haven't seen any of the examples the two of them referenced I'm years behind on my muppets and I need to fix that.

I think the show "muppets. Yeah they were. Those were all family friendly romps with very little spiciness to them.

I think what the early movies do really well, and what they sort of lost over time, was making the Muppets more nuanced and even mature and thoughtful at times.

You still got the wacky stuff but there was also that feel of a bunch of misfits trying with varying confidence to live in a world which didn't necessarily fit them.

The subversion came in less through adult situations than by the Muppets' intersections with the adult world, if that makes sense.

The old show is still one of my favorite programs. Every episode was just full of creativity and humor.

The new show was written as if the people in charge had no idea that the drama on the show was a vehicle for gags and not the main attraction.

The Muppets from did really well at the box office largely because it was made as a love letter to the old show and films.

They have the Muppet live shows recently at London and some theme park stuff but not much else right now I think with these sort of concept heavy films you've got to make sure the script is packed with good jokes, like way more than you'll even need and it probably helps to have some good improv actors in the cast too.

If all you're doing though is riffing on said concept, well then your just left with an expensive embarrassment of a movie.

What a waste. It's really a funny concept if done properly, but the trailer makes it look like a Friedberg and Seltzer movie with Muppets. Watch Bridesmaids, Spy, or St.

Vincent to know that she can act and be amazing in a role. She earned that Oscar nomination in Bridesmaids.

I honestly loved her in that movie and was actually inspired by her character I was in a really bad place at the time okay.

I do respect her for trying to work with her husband and take an active role in her own career, but at a certain point she needs to realize that she is losing the reason she was able to do that in the first place.

Critics aside, her box office track record is slowly dropping. Sooner or later studios will start to say no to her and force her to take a pay cut.

Then, she might just end up like Adam Sandler engrained on our Netflix homepage. Congrats on speedrunning it Melissa. It's actually a project that was conceived well before mellisa and her husband became involved.

I feel like so many bad implementations of it have made it impossible for me to enjoy the sort of awkward, bumbling "talking herself into a corner" humor McCarthy is primarily known for, even when it's done well.

It's interesting because while the score on IMDB isn't that high, it seems like audiences are enjoying it a bit more than critics.

I have a feeling this movie will appeal to the South Park and Family Guy crowd. IGN by William Bibbiani 7.

I think people expected it to take itself more seriously? I mean the dude spraying over his office was in the trailer. Ya gotta know where this one was headed before you walked in.

It was great for what it was and I thought the pupetry and details on some of the pupets where great. I do feel bad about this.

Seeing dreams fail is crushing. The puppet work was great and I really enjoyed the character of Phil. Melissa McCarthy was actually really good here as well and much more tame compared to some of her other recent roles.

Joel McHale was also good, although he's not nearly in it as much as the trailer suggests. I thought the humor worked for the most part.

Yes, a lot of it's raunchy sex humor and a few jokes get repeated, but there was still a handful of moments I laughed hard and a couple of clever jokes as well.

The big issue with the film is that the plot is terrible. You can literally predict who the killer is within the second they appear on screen.

On another note, I also have to say the movie looks very cheaply made. Overall, I'd give it a 6. It's a fun movie and nowhere near as bad as critics are making it out to be, but after being in development for 6 years, it certainly doesn't live up it's potential.

I'll be curious to see how it plays with audiences because the screening I was at the audience was loving it. JJ still has a chance to do the "and it was all a dream.

How pissed would Rian be, do you think? Who cares what Rian Would feel? He admitted to never reading the first script.

I'd love to see JJ fix everything and say Luke just traveled to another location by the force. I completely respect your frustration with the choice s Johnson made during Episode 8.

Wile they all worked for me I love that discussion can be generated from his choices, however, you should do yourself a favor and fact check yourself before making comments like this:.

That made it more personal in terms of the launching points I used for my movie. So what you're saying is Did I mention Luke threw his father's lightsaber away like it was nothing?

Every line of dialogue, every joke, everything. Instead, I swung a sword around and now can do all the force things that the plot requires of me.

There's 15 reasons why I don't truly believe he more than skimmed the script at best. You're welcome to tell me I am wrong and TLJ was the best movie ever, but I'd rather see MM in a Puppet Jizz flick with more excitement than the bastardization that became of a series older than myself.

At least Henson's son is giving us a movie with more expectation than what TLJ left in our mouths. I will start by saying I'll never tell anyone their wrong.

Actual film discussion cant be constructive if you trying to simply convince someone their wrong.

With that being said I will go through your points and see where I can understand form a different perspective.

A movie with a one joke idea starring a one joke actress is a big piece of shit? I fucking wonder why? It all seemed so solid on paper.

I mean it took the better part of a decade and had more rewrites than you could shake a stick at. It was actually better than I expected the plot was ok, some jokes a bit cheesy but it was alright all in all.

So it's really just one of Jim Henson's offspring tarnishing their father's legacy for 90 minutes? You mean they couldn't cut a decent trailer together and it turns out the movie is actually garbage?!

Is it wrong that the negative reviews make me want to see it more? Surprised that top critics like Glenn Kenny and AO Scott gave it a mediocre eval rather than completely trashing it like the majority of other critics.

If anything, I would've expected these two to be the ones most likely throw it in the wood-chipper. It's because they're first and foremost a 'trade magazine', usually made for people inside the business.

I love plenty of comedies that got terrible reviews and hate plenty of comedies that got great reviews. But yeah, who knows.

I don't put a lot of faith in what critics say in general, but doubly so when it comes to comedies. Hot Rod is one of my favourite movies of all time, and according to Rotten Tomatoes, it only slightly more fresh reviews than The Happytime Murders.

Let's be honest. This thing could be a hilarious comedic gem, with laugh out loud moments every few minutes and very few major critics would have the balls to admit they liked it.

Post a comment! Create an account. Disgusting puppets seemed like a novelty back then. I bet that person is just flabbergasted.

That movie had a lot of full frontal puppet nudity. What a shocker. Or lack thereof. Or know when the draft is dated? And that saddens me, since I generally consider IGN shit.

Disney on the record cites "unacceptable business conduct" and an anonymous source claimed there were years of unprofessional behavior and hostile negotiations from Whitmire you're the 1st person I've heard try to tie it to MeToo and I also remember other articles that say he vehemently argued about Disney not understanding the Characters.

I get it, The Office was popular but come on. Wow, scaving! So this begs the question are we so sure that Snoke was meant to be the "main villain"; or was Johnson honoring the character driven elements of the original 3 films and eliminating him in a similar manner to which Vader ended Palpatine?

In this I assume your talking about Kelly Marie Tran? Yeah I agree that the Canto Bight aspect could easily have been re-worked into something more meaningful.

However, aren't the Ewoks equally as hated by fans as a subplot? Not arguing for or against just thinking that theirs always a little deviation that doesn't resonate with everyone.

For me Luke's arc worked completely as I felt it was kind of poetic that the one man that used to believe wholeheartedly in the Force was dealing with a loss of faith.

Kind of similar to how a religious person may struggle with faith due to the loss of a loved one. But we should probably leave this one alone as I know this is the BIG "no-no" of the film for most.

Are lightsabers "clashing" the requirements for a battle? The actual puppeteering is very well done I would expect nothing less given the involvement of Jim Hensons's son.

Overall, the gimmick and little moments are more than enough to make up for the movie's shortcomings, making it very enjoyable, though still not any sort of masterpiece.
